New Play Structure:
Installed and Operational
On behalf of the CSCC Committee, a big thanks to all parents and families of St. Gregory for participating in fundraising over the past two years. These funds were put towards the purchase and installation of the new playground structure at St. Gregory School. Thanks to the City of Regina for the $9,400 contribution from the Community Partnership Program Grant. All proceeds combined were used to purchase the $20,900 play structure.

Special thanks to all parents and families who came out on Saturday, Sept. 20th to construct and install the structure. The knowledge and assistance provided was greatly appreciated, without all of you, the structure would not be assembled and operational today.

Volunteers whom helped out:
 Kari, Randy & Phil Wihlidal
 Deb Clare
 Dhilu Seilman
 Doug & Kelly Buettner
 David, Katrina & Cole Diewold
 Vern Nelson
 Brad & Charlotte Hinks
 Leanne & Benjamin Van Betuw
 Melodie & David Wark
 Angela Zborosky & Darcy Flaman
 Kathy & Ray Desjarlais
 Darlene, Roger & Zach Perras
 Darren Drews
 Tom & Lorena Miller
 Reid Charko
 Charlotte Dusyk & Daniel Villanueva

Special thanks to Doug & Kelly Buettner who provided endless supplies of beverages (coffee, flavoured coffee, ice caps & slushies). Also to Jesse, Kelsey & Noah Buettner for serving up these vital drinks on such a cool morning to aid the volunteers.

As well thanks to Brad Hinks for supplying us with Hostess chips to munch on.

To our baby sitters who watched over our younger children while we were all busy building the structure, thank you, without you, many of us may not have been able participate: Heather Hinks and Stephanie Seilman.

Thanks to Randy and Phil Wihlidal who took time to cut down the trees and make everything neat and tidy at the front of the school. Everyone can once again see our school sign.

Thanks to the ‘security’ team who gave an hour of time to watch over the structure after the installation to ensure no mishaps occurred while the cement dried - Kari Wihlidal; Lorena Miller; Melodie Wark; Dhilu Seilman; and Angie Zborosky.

An extra thank you to those who went back on Sunday to complete the finishing touches. Giving your extra time on the weekend was much appreciated.

It was great to have so many people come out and help with the structure. We know the kids of St Gregory School really appreciate it and have already been enjoying playing on it, so thanks again everyone. The structure will be enjoyed by many at our school and the community for years to come.

If we missed mentioning anyone, our sincere apologies, we did not mean to, thank you. We know that there were many people out on the weekend and we appreciate all the time everyone put in.

We are once again registered and ask that you please drop off all your used ink and toner cartridges.

Here is some information about Staples:
STAPLES Business Depot’s Recycle for Education program is designed to help raise money for schools across Canada. The program launched September 15, 2004 and has raised $225,000 for participating schools in 2005. This year the program is expected to raise $225,000 for participating schools.

Every STAPLES Business Depot | BUREAU EN GROS store location across Canada has a recycle bin near the ink and toner cartridge area where customers, students, parents and teachers can drop off their empty ink and toner cartridges. Library

Mrs. Dalrymple’s Reading Corner

Greetings students and families! I am Mrs. Dalrymple, St. Gregory’s teacher-librarian, and I have many exciting literacy ideas for this 2008-2009 school year. Our theme is The St. Gregory Rough Readers, and one of our top Accelerated Reading (A.R.) prizes will have to do with our hometown football team: The Saskatchewan Roughriders. Stay tuned to find out what the many other A.R. incentives for the year will be.

WANTED: I am looking for photographs of the students and families of our school celebrating their Reading Pride, as well as their Rider Pride, to hang up in our school’s library. For the months of September and October you are encouraged to drop off pictures of yourselves decked out in Rider green and white, and/or pictures of you reading. Be creative! Those who participate will be entered into a draw to receive a $20 gift certificate to a surprise location. The draw will be made on November 3, 2008.

Feel free to stop in the library and have a peek at all the great resources sitting on the shelves.

Happy Reading,
Mrs. Dalrymple
