INTER-LACROSSE

This year at St. Gregory we have decided to participate in Interschool Lacrosse along with students from St. Timothy. The idea was brought forth from Ms. Jealous and Mr. Van Betuw of St. Timothy to field a team with Grade 7 and 8 athletes from Timothy and Gregory. From St. Gregory, Mr. Parisien has decided to help with this endeavour and although Lacrosse coincides with Badminton and Track, we are looking forward to making it work with our busy schedules. This year’s season will consist of practices and tryouts at both St. Timothy and St. Gregory on Tuesdays and Fridays after school; before and after Easter break. Also, the game schedule has not yet been determined and will be sent at a later date. We have great confidence that this will be a fun and successful season.

St. Gregory Lacrosse Athletes:

Terence Friday Parker Kentz
Cole Wilchynski Tiaunna Ross
Steven Wyper Navit Asres
Hakim Ocaya Carly Kentz
Jesse Buettner

Greetings, from your Regina Catholic School Division Board of Trustees!

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow. ~ Proverb

We would like to recognize all the hard work of our staff, students, and community members who have come together this season to work on many valuable Lenten projects. Thank you.

March has been a historic month for the Regina Catholic School Division. This month the Board of Trustees entered into a workplace partnership agreement with the Ministry of First Nations and Métis Relations. The partnership focuses on continuing to work on preparing our Division to employ Aboriginal people, while in turn preparing Aboriginal people to compete for job opportunities with the Division.

The provincial government has just released its budget. We are in the process of determining the impact of the numerous funding changes specific to our Division's provincial financial support.

As we prepare for Holy Week, with the ultimate celebration of Easter Sunday, we wish you and your family God's many blessings.

St. Gregory’s Reading Corner
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is an exciting type of reading club that uses a game show format to challenge teams’ knowledge of eight to ten pre-selected books from a variety of authors and genres. Teams are comprised of students in grades 6, 7 and 8. They are asked questions based on the characters, plots, and settings of the books. Points are scored by correctly identifying the titles and authors of the books. This is the first year for Battle of the Books in the Regina Catholic School. The students have been reading away and are beginning their inter-school “battles” this week. Zone tournaments and finals will take place in March.

The students participating in Battle of the Books this year include:
Madison Jerome, Heather Hinks, Martina Muhr, Hillary Mehlhorn, Nash Fisher, Carter Myers, Griffin Magee, Noah Perras, Drenz Morante, Jessica Derow, Raelyn Chartier, Sara Gottselig, Amy Morris, Samantha Bote, Haley Mehlhorn, Jessica Dyck, Braden Masse, Dallas Young, Tim Harden, and Tanner Stengler.

Volunteer SHOUT OUT!
I would like to extend a BIG thank you to Evelyn Matick and Leanne Van Betuw who have been helping to shelf books in the library. The students at St. Gregory are voracious readers and the amount of books coming in and out of the library is too much for one person to handle. If any
adults would like to volunteer shelving books, please contact me, Mrs. Courtney Dalrymple at the school
(791-7340) or stop in for a quick tutorial. You will not be held to a certain schedule; rather, you can simply volunteer whenever you have time. Any help would be appreciated.

Accelerated Reader
The students and classes are reading up a storm for A.R. The C.F.L. (Crazy for Literature) standings as of January 5th standings are as follows:

Division One: Grade 1 – Grade 3/4
1st Place (17 Points) – The Grade 3/4 Alouettes
2nd Place (13 Points) – The Grade 2/3 Tiger Cats
3rd Place (3 Points) – The Grade 1/2 Eskimos
4th Place – The Grade 1 Gainers and the Kindergarten Referees

Division Two: Grade 4/5 – Grade 8
1st Place Tie (10 Points) – The Grade 8 Roughriders
2nd Place (9 Points) – The Grade 4/5 Argonaughts
3rd Place (8 Points) – The Grade 6/7 (Mr. Parisien’s) Blue Bombers Crazy For Literature
4th Place (6 Points) – The Grade 6/7 (Mrs. Perrey’s) Stampeders

Stay tuned for many more exciting literary adventures happening in the library and around the school!

Microwave Safety Reminder

If sending food that requires heating in the microwave, please teach your child/children the proper use of a microwave, at home.

Some thoughts to share:

 Send food in the proper container for microwave use.
 Never leave lid sealed. The dish should always be unsealed before it is put in the microwave. The lid can blow off if contents get to hot, which could cause burns.
 Use caution when removing dish as it may be hot to touch – use potholder or other form of protection and uncover foods away from face for the steam to escape, to prevent burns.
 Never use metal objects or aluminum foil in the oven.
 Never turn on the microwave when empty.
 If your child requires assistance with a microwave, PLEASE ASK for help.

Thank You for your support,
St. Gregory CSCC
